As noted above, spring is for dry fly anglers in Patagonia, and the stunning Patagonia Baker Lodge, dubbed "the most beautiful lodge in Patagonia" by many of our returning guests, is a great place to cast high-floating dries to rising trout. Not only is the Rio Baker in its spring prime, before it gets a push of glacial meltwater, but the Rio Cochrane is in ideal shape for sight-casting to absolutely massive browns and rainbows. Throw in the chance to catch the prettiest rainbows on the planet in Lago Brown that cruise the edges and hammer big dry flies in the spring, and this week at Baker can be very special. The middle section of Chile’s Rio Blanco is some of the most untouched water in all of Patagonia. Waterfalls, class V rapids, and impassable canyon water prevent up or downriver access, leaving the roughly 30-mile middle reaches of the river as the sole domain of the River of Dreams Basecamp.For only a few months a year, that enormous stretch of emerald blue-green river is fished by no more than six anglers per week, who chase oversized brown and rainbow trout in the Blanco’s wild waters.For streamer fishing junkies, anglers who like rising trophy trout on terrestrials and attractor dry flies, and big fish chasers, basecamp might just be heaven on earth.

One of the best assets of Patagonia Baker Lodge is that it's more than just a fishing lodge. Perched on the shores of the impossibly turquoise Baker River, the lodge offers some stellar non-angling adventures that include daily cooking classes from a Chilean chef, hiking or driving tours of Patagonia National Park, kayaking or boat tours of the stunning Marble Caves, horseback riding, and scenic boat tours on area lakes. One of our newest destinations is also one of our most exciting. Texas redfish are fantastic targets on the endless expanses of San Antonio Bay and the mangrove cuts of Matagoroda Island. But this trip also features the chance to go "outside" the bay and chase massive jack crevalle in the mornings, before the coastal wind picks up, and then head back into the flat water for the afternoon session to look for cruising reds on the flats. These fish are aggressive and plentiful, and they will chase flies on top. We just returned from our 2026 hosted trip to the Blanda River system and Long Valley Lodge — a week that featured excellent Atlantic salmon fishing and the river's characteristically productive wild brown trout fishing (even if the Arctic char fishing was a bit slower than usual). Add in the lodge's first-rate guides, excellent hospitality and a great group of easygoing, fun-loving anglers and it's easy to call the entire endeavor a big success. This will be our fourth straight year hosting anglers at the wonderful Dalton Trail Lodge in the southern Yukon. We keep coming back year after year for two reasons. First, our clients love the experience, and the team at Dalton Trail Lodge is absolutely wonderful. Our couples' weeks in Patagonia have been so successful that we've decided to expand the offering to other destinations. First stop: Slovenia. In truth, out of all of the destinations in our catalog, there may be none that offers more to both anglers and non-anglers. For fly fishers, Slovenia offers excellent angling opportunities for brown trout and European grayling in their native range, is one of the few places on the planet where anglers can pursue marble trout, and also offers excellent fishing for rainbow trout and pike. Slovenia’s non-angling offerings are just as rich and diverse as its angling opportunities — and just as accessible. Popular tourist attractions like Lake Bled, the Postojna and other world-famous cave systems; outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking, rafting, mountain biking, canyoneering and more; and the country’s cosmopolitan capital of Ljubljana, castles and historic sites, award-winning wineries, Michelin-starred restaurants offer a seemingly endless list of non-angling activities. And the list goes on.
