Join us at Alaska's Royal Wolf Lodge this summer!

April 25th by Chris Hunt

I’ve spent some time this week tying mouse patterns. It’s one of those endeavors that just screams potential — to think that, just maybe, one of the flies I’m crafting at the vise right now might end up in the gullet of a 30-inch leopard rainbow trout from southwest Alaska is, at the moment, beyond comprehension.

But it could happen. And I hope it does, because I’m headed to Bristol Bay in mid-June — we're making an exploratory visit to Royal Wolf Lodge during the peak of the "mousing season," and we have room for six other two more anglers during our visit. We're going to be at the lodge June 16-23 this summer— prime dry-fly time on the rivers and streams around the lodge. Royal Wolf Lodge is located within the confines of Katmai National Park and Preserve, which, according to lodge manager Nate Morris, virtually guarantees lightly pressured trout and uncrowded angling opportunities on daily fly-out excursions from the lodge.

Join us June 16-23 at Royal Wolf Lodge, Bristol Bay, Alaska

But the dry-fly fishing doesn't last long. Once Bristol Bay’s plentiful sockeye salmon start to move into the rivers around the lodge in July, the “mousing” season will come to a halt — the region's big rainbows will start to focus on eating salmon eggs. But, while we're there, in June, the fish will be focused on more traditional trout food, like aquatic insects and, yes, those unlucky rodents that occasionally end up in the water and elicit breathtaking strikes from beneath.

We’d love it if you wanted to join us — just reach out via email or call us at 208-557-8388, and let us know, and we’ll get your spot reserved. Here are the particulars for our hosted trip:
