Belize River Lodge snares LuxLife award
One of your newest destination partners, Belize River Lodge, is the 2023 winner of the LuxLife Getaway Award for Best Fishing Accommodation. We congratulate the Miles-Heusner family—owners of the lodge—on the award. We completely agree with LuxLife — the lodge is definitely worthy of such recognition.
We visited Belize River Lodge earlier this spring, and we enjoyed some amazing fishing for tarpon and bonefish. We also had several shots at wily permit, and we caught other exciting flats fish, like big jack crevalle, mutton snapper and barracuda. The lodge is situated on the banks of the pristine Belize Olde River, which starts high in the jungle and flows for more than 100 miles through the rainforest before emptying into the bay just a short boat ride from the property.
With several rivers within reach for chasing tarpon of all sizes, and the proximity to the flats, Belize River Lodge is an excellent destination. Add in the fact that it's a quick ride from the largest airport in Belize, and you have the makings of a very convenient saltwater fishing getaway. But, once you get to the lodge, you don't feel as though you're in a Belize City suburb. And, frankly, you're not. A quick boat ride up the river puts anglers in some wild country, where tarpon roll frequently, big crocodiles glide through the water and everything from tapirs to jaguars come to the river to drink.
The flats are close, too, and the family has recently added a new feature to its offerings. Long Caye Outpost is about 45 minutes by boat from the lodge, and essentially offers guests their own private island vacation, with fishing right out the front door, and a great snorkeling reef within easy reach.
Better yet, during the "green season" — August through December — the lodge is offering some great travel specials. Between now and Dec . 20, the lodge is offering a two-for-one special for two guests, and an unbeatable packages for solo anglers.
