2026 Patagonia Hosted Trip
Ask a Patagonian fishing guide what their favorite time of year is and, almost invariably, you’ll get the same answer: autumn. That’s because the fall months are a special time to be on the water in Patagonia. Tourist crowds dwindle, the hillsides explode with bursts of color, and high elevation storms often drape the craggy peaks that predominate the region with a fresh blanket of white snow. In the rivers, wild brown trout begin their fall migration in preparation for spawning later in the season. These fish are summer-fattened, shouldered, and aggressive — and the largest fish of the season are typically caught during this time of year.
Autumn in Patagonia also happens to be our favorite time to be there, which is why we’re hosting three trips over the course of two weeks this coming March and April in the Aysen region of Chilean Patagonia.
Anglers are free to choose either one week or two. Solo travelers are welcome, too — without worrying about sometimes pricey single angler surcharges.
Here’s the rundown:
WEEK 1
MARCH 21-28, 2026
PATAGONIA BAKER LODGE
2 RODS AVAILABLE
The region’s newest fishing lodge, Patagonia Baker Lodge, is part of the Magic Waters family of fishing lodges — which are far and away our clients’ most beloved destinations. Situated on the banks of the mighty Rio Baker, Chile’s largest river, the lodge offers stunning turquoise-tinted river views from every room. Even though the lodge is less than three years old, it saw two notable upgrades this past off-season, with the addition of a beautiful floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the lodge’s great room and a wood-fired hot tub on a deck overlooking the river.
Anglers visiting the lodge with us this week will be fishing both near and far. We’ll ply the water literally right out the front door on the Baker River as well as just up the road on two nearby lakes and the "river" that connects them (where large migratory fish are often caught). We'll venture a bit farther to the famed Cochrane River, which features technical but very special sight-and-stalk fishing that often offers shots at some very large fish. Finally, if conditions allow, we'll travel even farther to a river that shall not be named that produces the biggest trophies in the region.

It's a wonderful time to be on the Baker and in the region, with many different options both for anglers that like action and aren't primarily focused on fish size and also for those that want to go in search of the fish of their lifetime.

Patagonia
Patagonia Baker Lodge
The mighty Rio Baker is perhaps Chile’s most iconic and beautiful river. Well-known to fly fishers, kayakers and rafters which have floated its glacially-tinged waters for decades, the Baker received worldwide recognition in 2014 when an enormous civic action campaign saved the river from a massive dam and hydroelectric power project that would have destroyed the river’s raw, wild nature and untarnished ecosystem. Thanks to that campaign, today the Baker still flows free and wild.
WEEK 2
MARCH 28 - APRIL 4, 2026
RIVER OF DREAMS BASECAMP
2 RODS AVAILABLE
The River of Dreams Basecamp is one of Patagonia's true adventures. Located in a remote river valley accessible only by horseback or helicopter, basecamp and its 30 miles of river and incredibly productive spring creek are the sole domain of a mere 6 anglers per week. Despite its remote location, camp is wonderfully accommodating, with comfortable beds, flush toilets, hot showers, a welcoming dining lodge, and riverfront views from every guest cabin.
This River of Dreams brown trout taped out at "only" 25 inches long, but fish up to 29 inches long are caught each season
For anglers that enjoy streamer fishing and tossing fat, foam dry flies to aggressive brown and rainbow trout — there is no other destination on the planet quite like basecamp.

The River of Dreams Basecamp
The middle section of Rio Blanco is some of the most untouched water in all of Patagonia. The lower reaches of the Blanco, near its confluence with Rio Aysén and mere miles from where the river dumps into the Pacific Ocean, can be reached via both an unimproved dirt road and by upstream jetboat—until powerful waterfalls and class IV rapids block your way. And, the first few miles downstream of the river's origin can be accessed by portaging across a massive lake and hiking downriver before an impassible canyon halts your progress.
