The Xflats

The Xflats, our newest destination, is 20% off!

May 18th by Chris Hunt

Thought flats fishing was done for the season? Not so fast. One lodge located on the southern Yucatan keeps the boats running all year long, because the fishing action in Chetumal Bay never stops.

My Hatch Adventure Travel business partner, Earl Harper, and I visited The Xflats last fall -- our newest destination partner -- and we were immediately enamored by the lodge's homey feel and unique fusion of both Mexican and Caribbean vibes. The comfortable and beautiful lodge faces the sea and there's some wonderful fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon and big jacks right inside the reef. But the real gem at Xflats is its close proximity to the endless flats of Chetumal Bay -- it's absolutely amazing.

Earl and I had a bonefish week to remember -- maybe the best week either of us can recall. The guides were intimately familiar with the bay and the fish. They were patient and offered up excellent instruction when we needed it. We had numerous shots at both permit and tarpon, as well (I apparently have a knack for plucking the only bonefish out of a cruising school of permit!), and the scenery in the area is absolutely relentless--it's one of the most beautiful flats fisheries I've ever seen.

The Xflats is also the only lodge around the little fishing village of Xcalak that caters solely to fly fishers. There are other options, but they're sort of a la carte, and cater to divers, kayakers and anglers. The flats of the bay are wonderfully unpressured, full of bonefish and permit and ... well... they're huge. It would take a lifetime to fish them all.

But the best part? Starting in August, The Xflats is offering several weeks through November at a whopping 20% off. That means you can fish the endless flats of Chetumal Bay for a week ... for just over $3,500 (double occupancy). Here are the dates available at the reduced rate:

  • Aug. 12-19
  • Aug.19-26
  • Aug. 26-Sept. 2
  • Oct. 7-14
  • Oct. 21-28
  • Nov. 11-18

The discounted rate of $3,596 includes everything from your shuttle from and back to Cancun, all meals, all lodging, guided fishing and evening appetizers and cocktails. You'll find the lodge to be ideal, both in terms of comfort and service. It's a great little Yucatan hide-away that features some of the best flats and inshore fishing in the Caribbean. And I'd love to help get you there!

Simply drop us an inquiry, or give us a call directly at (208) 557-8388, and we'll take it from there.

For select dates from August through November anglers can visit The Xflats and vast Chetumal Bay at a 20% discount
