Space is tightening up on our 2024 intimate voyages in Alaska

October 30th by Chris Hunt

Southeast Alaska is a watery wonderland that remains wild and untamed. Home to the Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rainforest on earth, the fabled Inside Passage has attracted adventurers since the native Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian tribes plied its waters in dugout cedar canoes. From fur traders and gold miners to trophy hunters in search of their next giant salmon or halibut, this wild corner of Alaska has captured imaginations since the dawn of humanity.

But today's tourist often arrives on a giant cruise ship — a floating, impersonal city full of thousands of passengers who look at their next mass-prepared meal through sneeze guards and think cocktail hour means gulping a Mondo Mojito while looking at the distant mountains through the window of the dining hall. Throngs of tourists hustle ashore en masse at manufactured ports-of-call from these behemoth vessels, hoping to find a shore excursion that's not too crowded and not too expensive. Or they browse the kitschy gift shops, dive bars and tourist traps and think they're experiencing the real Alaska.

Well, they're not.

Experience the real Alaska with The Boat Company

The real Alaska is out there, though, and thanks to The Boat Company, just a few lucky adventurers get to see it up close and personal. Aboard one of two small touring vessels, like the Liseron, which is restored naval minesweeper, about 20 guests at time disembark from either Juneau or Sitka for a week in the wild.

Every day, a new anchorage awaits. A new glacier begs to be explored from the bow of small skiff. A new salmon and trout stream beckons fly fishers. A new waterfall stands ready to inspire. A lonely trail through the rainforest needs to be explored. And, thanks the nimble crafts operated by The Boat Company, you can see it all. You can touch it. You can live it.

While the big floating cruise ships are forced to enviably sail on by, passengers with The Boat Company get to experience an Alaska that the "condo commando" crowd can only dream of.

But ... time is running out on the 2024 season

As you might imagine, with our smaller, luxury vessels and only about 20 passengers per voyage, space is always limited on these exclusive excursions with The Boat Company. And, predictably, the 2024 excursion season is filling up fast. In fact, most mid-summer dates are already sold out. But don't let that deter you — some of the best weather of the year is in May, and the best fishing and whale watching? That's in August and September!

Despite shrinking availability, we do have some great weeks available aboard both the Liseron and the Mist Cove. But staterooms are filling fast, so now is the time to book for 2024: Here's what we have available for our 2024 season (all rates are based on double occupancy):

  • May 11-18 — 22 staterooms, $8,000 per guest

  • May 18-25 — 20 staterooms, $9,500 per guest
