The Yukon is on sale!
A stellar angling destination hidden in plain sight
When I first visited the Yukon in August 2016, I was on a quest to the Arctic. I'd driven the bulk of the Alaska Highway through British Columbia and made it to Whitehorse, where I parked my little camper and started exploring. Time was short — fitting the journey of a liftetime into 12 weeks left me precious little time to really dive in and explore. But the time I spent in the southern Yukon left me yearning for more.
So, a few years later, I returned and hoped to dive in a bit deeper. With the help of the wonderful team at Dalton Trail Lodge, I was able to do just that. The visit, for a wild-country fly fisher, was simply amazing. I was re-educated on the merits of lake trout as a legitimate fly-rod target. I was also reminded that nothing in the fly fishing world is quite like the vicious attack of a hungry northern pike. And, of course, there were the grayling. Literally hundreds of happy, acrobatic dry-fly crushing, sail-finned grayling. Is there a more cooperative fish for fly caster?
No. And it's not even close.
The Yukon will surprise you
If you haven't been to the Yukon, it might be because you considered it to be "way up there," and really hard to get to. Or, just as likely, you've left the Yukon off your angling radar because "it must cost a fortune."
Just like the Yukon turned my angling perspective on its axis, let me do the same for you. The Yukon is pretty easy to access. And, compared to other storied destinations, like Alaska or Patagonia or New Zealand, the Yukon is downright cheap. And the fishing? Holy moly. You're missing out.
But that doesn't have to be the case. Let's make 2024 the year you discover the Yukon. And, just like me, you can discover the wonders of the Yukon from the cozy confines of Dalton Trail Lodge.
And it gets better. How about a trip to one of the best fishing lodges in Canada at a 20% discount?
Steep discounts on select dates in 2024
That's right. On top of Dalton Trail Lodge's already-stellar pricing schedule, anglers from around the world can visit the lodge at prices they won't find anywhere else. See the discounted date blocks below and marvel at those prices. A week at a high-end fishing lodge in the Yukon for less than $3,000? You betcha!
May 28-June 3
This is the opening week of the 2024 season, and is historically good for both trophy pike moving into the shallows and for giant lake trout cruising the shorelines in search of grayling and whitefish. It offers excellent early season action for these big fish and great post-spawn fishing for big rainbows and grayling in nearby rivers.

Aug. 4-Aug. 14
This 10-day block is "big fish" time for area lake trout, and it gives anglers the chance to explore the Yukon a bit. It's also a great time to run over the hill from the lodge and fish the upper Chilkat River for pink and silver salmon and Dolly Varden in Alaska (about an hour or so from the lodge). It's prime time for rainbows and grayling on the Kathleen River and other area waters, too.

Sept. 22-29
This is the last week of the season at the lodge and it's at the peak of the lake trout run up the area rivers and streams. As lodge owner Hardy Ruf says, this is the time of year "when the rivers run black with trout." To make this week even better, trophy pike are back in the shallows fattening up for winter, and, as usual, grayling and rainbows are plentiful and in the mix.
